Cambodian Top Leaders Send Condolence Messages to Vietnamese Counterparts over Loss of Former CPV Secretary General

Cambodian top leaders have extended their sincere condolences to their Vietnamese counterparts over the passing away of H.E. Le Kha Phieu, former Secretary General of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV).

“I have learned with profound sorrow of the passing away of H.E. Le Kha Phieu, former CPV Secretary General on August 7, 2020 at the age of 89 years old,” wrote His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, in his message to H.E. Nguyen Phu Trong, current CPV Secretary General and President of Viet Nam.

The departure of H.E. Le Kha Phieu is a big loss of an eminent statesman who has actively contributed to the construction and development of Viet Nam, underlined the Cambodian monarch.

For his part, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister and President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), said that H.E. Le Kha Phieu was a long-time friend of Cambodia who contributed significantly to the elevation of the bonds of fraternal friendship and close cooperation not only between the CPP and CPC, but also between the two governments and peoples.

“On behalf of the Cambodian People’s Party and the people of Cambodia, I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the Vietnamese people, particularly H.E. Le Kha Phieu bereaved family, at this moment of great sorrow,” he added.

Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, joined H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Chairwoman of the National Assembly as well as the Party, State and people of Viet Nam and the bereaved family to pray for the soul of H.E. Le Kha Phieu to rest in peace.

For his part, Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, stressed that H.E. Le Kha Phieu’s historical achievements and outstanding role model will continue to last forever.
