Australia to Continue Supporting Cambodia with Cross-Border Drug Control

Cambodia and Australia have reiterated collective commitment to continue fighting cross-border drug control, including human resource development for Cambodia.

The intention was shared during a meeting between H.E. Gen. Meas Virith, Secretary General of National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) and Mr. Anthony Maguire, the representative of the Australian Federal Police, here at the NACD general secretariat on Tuesday.

H.E. Gen. Meas Virith thanked the Australian government and people for the cooperation in the crackdown on transnational crime, especially cross-border drug trafficking.

He also informed the Australian side about key achievements of Cambodia on addressing illicit drug issues, which is among the country’s top priority.

Mr. Anthony Maguire appreciated Cambodia for the achievement and reaffirmed the commitment of Australia in supporting the Kingdom, and in terms of capacitating human resources, Australia will look into training espionages, intelligences and information analysts.

Also the country will support activities related to the Border Liaison Office (BLO) and drug testing.

During the first six months of 2020, Cambodia’s competent authorities have intervened in 4,510 major cases of illicit drug – up by 26 percent or 1,175 cases.
