Cambodia signs official protocol for exporting fresh mango to China

Cambodia and China signed official protocol for export of fresh mango to China, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on Tuesday morning.

The signing ceremony were signed by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, H.E Veng Sakhon and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E Wang Wentian, with participation of Cambodian officials, mango farm owners and

Chinese investors.

Minister Veng Sakhon said that the current production of fresh mango in Cambodia is increasing, which indicates the potential of the market to be exported.

The Minister stressed that agriculture is a leading sector that provides more energy for economic growth and contributes significantly to poverty reduction.

He continued to say said that the government’s political program under the leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen continued to prioritize the agricultural sector by promoting programs to increase productivity, diversification and commercialization of agriculture with a new path toward prosperity.

The Agriculture Minister further said that the Cambodian industrial development policy 2015-2025, with the main objective of the agricultural sector, is to boost the export of agricultural processed products to 12% of total exports by 2025.

The Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia said that after signing of the Cambodian Mango Export Protocol, Cambodia can export 500,000 tons of high quality mango to the Chinese market every year.

Export of fresh mango in the first five months of 2020, was more than 44,000 tons, up by 50.95 percent compared with the same period of the first five months of 2019.

Cambodia and South Korea have already signed agreement in exporting Cambodian mango directly to Korean market.
