Cambodia Announces the temporary closure of the common border, between Cambodia and Vietnam

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia sent a letter to the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia on March 19, 2020, confirming the temporary closure of the common border, between Cambodia and Vietnam, without allowing both people of the countries to cross the border.

Implementation of this measure shall be effective from 23:59 pm on March 20, 2020. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ‘s news release on Thursday morning.

Cambodia’s decision to temporarily close the Cambodia-Vietnam border, follows a directive from Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, after the Vietnamese government decided to close the gate.

The decision to close the border was aimed at avoiding difficulties along the two countries’ border, slowing down the COVID-19 epidemic.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID- 19, entry by Vietnamese nationals into Cambodia and Cambodian nationals into Vietnam by land, water way and Air will be temporarily suspended, effective from 23h 59 of March 20, 2020.

This measure is primarily aims to alert both Cambodian and Vietnamese nationals who travel to Vietnam from Cambodia.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that the above measures do not apply to Vietnamese and Cambodian nationals holding diplomatic and official passports.
