AKP Phnom Penh, March 17, 2020 —

Great Duke, a former five star hotel in Phnom Penh, will be turned into a temporary hospital for COVID-19 infected patients, as the number of new infection cases in the Kingdom increased doubly today, to 24.

In an announcement issued this morning, H.E. Mam Bunheng, Minister of Health, said that the ministry in cooperation with Phnom Penh Municipal Hall will use the Great Duke Hotel, former Intercontinental Hotel, as a hospital to check and treat patients with COVID-19.

The Ministry of Health also reaffirmed no community transmission in Cambodia, adding that the confirmed cases are imported from foreign countries.

To avoid possible community transmission, the government has ordered the Ministry of Health to cooperate with health officers of the Ministry of National Defence and Ministry of Interior.

The Great Duke Hotel is located near the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, where some COVID-19 infected patients have been being hospitalised.
