Cambodia Sends 68,040 Workers Abroad in 2019

Scores of 68,040 Cambodians were dispatched to work abroad in 2019, bringing the total number of Cambodian workers abroad to 1.2 million, according to a report from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.
The workers, of them 28,201 are women, were recruited to work in Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia, said the report released at the annual meeting of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training held here on Feb. 19.
Some 57,823 workers were sent to Thailand, 5,938 to South of Korea, 3,945 to Japan, 135 to Singapore, 72 to China’s Hong Kong Special Administration Region, 69 to Malaysia and 58 to Saudi Arabia, it added.
H.E. Ith Samheng said that the ministry continues to strengthen cooperation with the host countries to provide more employment opportunities for Cambodians and to ensure the workers’ rights are protected.
As of 2019, there were 1.2 million Cambodians working abroad, sending home some US$2 billion annually as remittances.
