Three nests of endangered royal turtle have been spotted along the bank of Sre Ambel River in Koh Kong province, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).

According to the local communities, Fisheries Administration and WCS who found the nests recently, there are a total of 51 turtle eggs there.

This, as underlined by the organisation, proved positive move of the effort of the Ministry of Mines and Energy that banned sand dredging operation along the river since 2017.

The royal turtle is an endangered species listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List as “critically endangered”.

Last month, WCS Cambodia, the Fisheries Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with Wildlife Reserves Singapore, released 20 Royal Turtles into the Sre Ambel River system.
