The celebration took place along the riverside of Takhmao town this morning with the participation of hundreds of people – civil servants, students, and local residents – along with a march along the town’s streets with slogans written on billboards “Congratulations to Takhmao town, a Clean Tourist City”.

The march also aimed to raise public awareness and to call for more joint efforts to keep the environment clean.

This is second time that Takhmao won such regional award.

The award hand-over ceremony was held on Jan. 16, 2020 at the 39th ASEAN Tourism Forum in Brunei Darussalam. Apart from Takhmao, other two Cambodian cities – Kampot city of Kampot province and Daun Penh district of Phnom Penh capital – also won the award.

The ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award is conferred upon the region’s cities in recognition of their cleanness and greenness.

Valid for three years, the award is to strengthen the attractiveness and enhance competitiveness of the ASEAN cities, as well as to strengthen the quality of tourism products and services.

Last year, Cambodia received 6.6 million foreign tourists, a 6.6 percent year-on-year increase, with 11.5 million domestic tourists.
