Cambodia and France vows to continue carrying out international adoption for humanitarian purposes

The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and France were committed to continue working together to carry out international adoptions with the aim of preventing human trafficking and finding good families for orphans.

The commitment was made by H.E Nim Thauth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and Mr.Denis Babet, French Ambassador in Charge of International Adoption on Tuesday in Phnom Penh.

H.E Nim Thauth said that the Royal Government of Cambodia has been implementing a child protection policy in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is incorporated in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

He also added that the Government considered inter-country adoption as a policy of humanitarian goals linked to respecting, enforcing the rights and interests of children, preventing human trafficking through international adoption and helping orphans who cannot afford to be adopted in the country.

For his part, the French Ambassador of International Adoptions said that France continues working with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation to support orphans in the Kingdom. Mr Denis Babet added that the cooperation with Cambodia and France now is to help with humanitarian goals and to prevent human trafficking.
