Princess Norodom Bopha Devi Passes Away
AKP Phnom Penh, November 18, 2019 —
Her Royal Highness Samdech Reach Botrei Preah Ream Norodom Buppha Devi, Privy Counsellor of His Majesty the King and a Member of the Constitutional Council, passed away today at around 12:30 pm due to illness at the age of 77 years old, according to Royal du Cambodge.
Born in Phnom Penh on January 8, 1943, the princess is the eldest daughter of His Majesty the late King Norodom Sihanouk and the late Neak Moneang Phat Kanthol. She became a dancer early in her life, at five years old. At the age of 15, she became the premiere dancer of the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, and was granted the title of prima ballerina at the age of 18.
Princess Norodom Buppha Devi got married in 1959 and has five children.
She used to serve as the Minister of Culture and Fine Arts from 1999 to 2004, and after that she became a senate member.
