Photos of the Week: Elephant Performance in Rattanakiri

This is an elephant performance at the Elephant Conservation Camp of Airavata Elephant Foundation in Katieng village, Lbaing Pi commune, Lumphat district, Rattanakiri province.

Cambodia is known as an important refuge supporting the survival of elephants in Indochina (Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam), while elephants are considered endangered on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

According to Fauna & Flora International, there are about 400 to 600 elephants in Cambodia, most of them are found in the northeastern and southwestern parts of the country. Currently, this largest land mammal is protected and conserved in various protected areas and wildlife sanctuaries, and under different projects such as Mondulkiri Project, Elephant Valley Project, Airavata Cambodia and so on.
