Cambodian Economy Continues to Be Healthy

Cambodia’s economy will continue to be healthy with a projected growth of 7.1 percent this year.

The forecast was shared by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) in a report, adding that in the first half of this year, the inflation rate went down to 1.9 percent, compared to 2.5 percent in the second half of 2018.

In the first six months of 2019, it pointed out, the exchange rate remained stable, at 4,038 riels for a U.S. dollar, up some 0.7 percent from the previous semester, while foreign reserves reached US$11.1 billion, equal to five months of imports and services.

According to the same source, the total bank assets rose to 180 trillion Riel, deposits to 100 trillion Riel, and credits to 112 trillion Riel.

Until the first semester of this year, 6.8 million deposit accounts and 2.7 million loan accounts were recorded.

Besides, there are in total 2,333 ATMs, 21,562 POS Machines, 3.9 million credit cards, and 164 Kiosks across Cambodia.
