Third Election of Capital, Provincial, Municipal, District and Khan Councils Begins

AKP Phnom Penh, May 26, 2019 —

The third Election of Capital, Provincial, Municipal, District and Khan Councils kicked off this morning at 7:00 in 203 polling stations in the 25 provinces and capital.

Some 11,572 commune/Sangkat councillors are going to the polls under the witness of 1,010 national observers from 19 institutions, most of the them from the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, as well as 704 political agents from five out of seven registered political parties.

The seven political parties registered for the race for the 559 seats at capital and provincial councils and 3,555 seats at municipal, district and Khan councils are the Cambodian People’s Party, Cambodian Nationality Party, FUNCINPEC, Khmer National United Party, Cambodian Youth Party, Khmer Will Party, and Khmer Republican Party.

According to the National Election Committee (NEC), the eight-day election campaign which ended on May 24 was conducted smoothly in a good, non-violent, unintimidating manner with good security, good order and mutual tolerance.
