May 23 is the World Turtle Day observed annually in order to draw people’s attention to the critical situation being faced by turtles and tortoises and to call for human action to help them survive and thrive.

AKP would like to present ten critically endangered species of turtles and tortoises in Cambodia:

  1. Southern River Terrapin or Royal Turtle (Batagur affinis)

  1. Yellow-headed Temple Turtle (Heosemys annandalii)

  1. Black Marsh Turtle (Siebenrockiella crassicollis)

  1. Asian Giant Softshell Turtle/Cantor’s Giant Softshell Turtle (Pelochelys cantorii)

  1. Mekong Snail-eating Turtle/Malayan Snail-eating Turtle (Malayemys subtrijuga)

  1. Asiatic Soft-shell Turtle (Amyda cartilaginea)

  1. Elongated Tortoise (Indotestudo elongata)

  1. Impressed Tortoise (Manouria impressa)

  1. Asian Giant Terrapin/Giant Asian pond turtle (Heosemys grandis)

  1. Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas)
