UNESCO Appreciates Cambodia’s Inclusive Education

AKP Phnom Penh, February 15, 2019 —

UNESCO has appreciated the effort of the Royal Government of Cambodia in promoting inclusive education, especially among children in remote areas.

Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Director General of the United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) expressed the appreciation during the launch of the UNESCO’s 2019 Global Education Monitoring Report on “Migration, Displacement and Education – Building Bridges, not Walls” here in Phnom Penh on Wednesday.

It is best to bring schooling access closest possible to the children in far-flung communities so as to allow them to fulfill their right to education.

From his end, H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, underlined the commitment of the government in education reform being carried out.

The Royal Government of Cambodia is also working hard to promote education access among child migrants and refugees, added the minister.

According to the highlights in the launch, the world is witnessing insufficient progress in ensuring education among children who are migrants and refugees due to the shortage of classrooms.

Ms. Audrey Azoulay underlined that the number of child migrants and refugees across the world have increased by 26 percent since 2000, adding that those kids are needing over 500,000 classrooms.

Even though many countries have acknowledged children’s right to quality education, some seem to take for granted in ensuring classrooms for them.
