AKP Phnom Penh, January 24, 2019 —
Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has spoken highly of the contribution of the Royal Cambodian Army in the national defence and development, and gave some recommendations in order to further strengthen the national defence sector.
While presiding over here this morning the commemoration of the 20th founding anniversary of the Royal Cambodian Army, the Premier adviced them to stick to the people’s national defence spirit because the army is born from the people and for the people, and to join other forces to maintain peace, prevent illegal acts, and ensure safety for the people.
They must combat terrorism and prevent any attempts to overthrow the legitimate government and to create colour revolutions under any forms, he added.
Besides, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called on all soldiers, both inside or outside of the country, to assist the poor and vulnerable people, stressing “Do not reduce them to tears due to our soldiers’ bad acts.”
Army’s participation in protecting forests, preserving natural resources and preventing all crimes; and their contribution to national income collection at national and sub-national levels, to the fight against corruption were also highlighted by the Prime Minister.
Moreover, the army was recommended to stick to their discipline, keep well all (military) equipment to ensure that they can use at any necessary time, and upgrade their respective skills.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen further called for attention to the livelihoods, such as shelter, foods, health care, etc. of the soldiers as well as those of the veterans.
The army must play the role as a key diplomat with neighbouring countries, i.e. maintaining relationships with old friends and enhancing good relations and cooperation with new partners through exchanges of visit, knowledge and strategies with their counterparts in other countries, he underlined.
On this occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen conferred decorations on army leaders and outstanding soldiers in recognition of their sacrifice for the nation.
