Cambodia Discusses Technical Customs Reform Support with Sweden

AKP Phnom Penh, January 17, 2019 —

Cambodia has proposed Sweden to support the country’s customs policies and administration reform to further improve tax collection.

Request for the technical assistance was highlighted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance H.E. Aun Porn Moniroth when receiving visiting Swedish delegation led  by H.E. Ms. Katrin Westling Palm, Director General of the Swedish Pensions Agency.

Tax collection system and services of Cambodia needs improvement to allow more convenience for tax payers and cost-efficient taxation, said the deputy prime minister in the recent meeting at his office here in Phnom Penh.

H.E. Ms. Katrin Westling thanked H.E. Aun Porn Moniroth for his warm hospitality and a productive discussion and was optimistic of more intimate collaboration between the customs units of Cambodia and Sweden.

The director general of Swedish Pensions Agency is leading her delegation for an exposure visit to Cambodia from Jan. 14 to 18 to understand progress of Cambodia’s public financial management reform.

Currently, Sweden is providing technical support to the Ministry of Economy and Finance in terms of risk management in cash settlement, feasibility on individual tax collection, and promotion of taxpayer services.
