Higher Number of Factories Opened in 2018
AKP Phnom Penh, January 17, 2019 —
Number of factories opened in 2018 outnumbered those started in 2017, pushing the total figure to 1,528 factories across Cambodia by now.
The highlight was shared by Minister of Industry and Handicraft H.E. Cham Prasidh during recent ministry’s 2018 work review and 2019 planning here in Phnom Penh.
There were 178 new factories opening last year compared to 150 in 2017, and of the current active 1,528, about 65 percent or 922 are weaving, bag, garment, and footwear manufacturers.
Producing both domestic and export products, the mentioned factories generated a total income of about US$13.17 billion in 2018 – an increase of 23 percent compared to the year before.
H.E. Cham Prasidh underlined that the increase of factories operating in Cambodia in 2018 was because mainly of improved registration process and regular inspections.
