H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC), received here on Sept. 10 Mr. Rho Hyun-Jun, new Country Director of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Cambodia Office.
The meeting touched on the 2019 International Development Cooperation Day in Korea, current progress of new project identification for the year 2021, review of cooperation progress, and identification of the cooperation areas in the future, said KOICA in a press release AKP received this evening.
On the occasion, Mr. Rho Hyun-Jun invited H.E. ChhiengYanara to attend the 2019 International Development Cooperation Day in Korea, scheduled on the last week of November 2019.
The upcoming event will focus mainly on Development Cooperation towards People-centered Peace and Prosperity – Thirty Year Trajectory of ROK-ASEAN Development Cooperation and beyond, he added.
H.E. Chhieng Yanara showed his willingness to attend the event of 2019 International Development Cooperation Day will further promote bilateral and regional cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea in terms of the Official development assistance (ODA).
Minister Chhieng Yanara thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea through KOICA for its contribution to Cambodia’s development in all domains.
For his part, Mr. Rho Hyun-Jun introduced New Southern Policy to ASEAN regions aiming at strengthening collaboration with ASEAN members, including Cambodia by saying that KOICA sets up to increase ODA to its ASEAN partner countries by 20 percent every year and thereby double the total amount it contributes by 2023 in line with the South Korean government’s New Southern Policy.
Mr. Rho Hyun-Jun also underlined that Cambodia is an important partner country. Currently, Cambodia ranked the 3rd large recipient country of KOICA’s grant aid. Therefore, KOICA has been a proud partner of the Cambodian government and the Cambodian people for the last two decades. He also expressed his appreciation for the existing cooperation between KOICA and Cambodia, and informed His Excellency ChhiengYanara that KOICA pledged to do its best to push for the implementation of more new projects for Cambodia.
According to the press release, the cooperation between the two countries have been improved and more comprehensive. Specifically, the volume of the Development Cooperation extended by the Government of the Republic of Korea to contribute to the Cambodia’s socio-economic development has increased noticeably. KOICA has been a close partner of the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia for over 20 years. As friendship and economic partnership between both countries have deepened significantly in recent years, the total volume of KOICA’s grant aid to Cambodia between 1991 and 2019 reached US$270 million. For the year 2019, KOICA’s estimated grant aid to Cambodia totaled US$20 million.
