Cambodian Authorities Destroy Over Two Tonnes of Illicit Drugs and Related Substances

AKP Phnom Penh, June 26, 2019 —

More than two tonnes of illicit drugs and related chemical substances have been destroyed at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition in Phnom Penh this morning.

The event took place under the presidency of Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26).

Addressing to the function, Samdech Sar Kheng, also Chairman of Anti-drug Campaign, spoke highly of the efforts of concerned parties in combating illicit drugs and gave some key recommendations for more effective action against narcotics.

Moreover, Samdech Sar Kheng called on all stakeholders to further support the rehabilitation of drug addicts.

UN Secretary-General H.E. António Guterres also gave his remarks on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. “I welcome the theme of this International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking – ‘Health for Justice, Justice for Health’ – underlining the importance of a holistic approach involving health, human rights, criminal justice and social service institutions,” he said.
