Over US$2 Million Raised to Assist Victims of Building Collapse Incident

AKP Phnom Penh, June 25, 2019 —

More than US$2 million have been collected to assist the victims of the recent seven-storey building collapse incident in Preah Sihanouk province.

“Apart from the donations of Their Majesties the King and Queen-Mother, the Senate, Royal Government and Cambodian Red Cross, I’ve appealed to charitable people for more assistance. As of noon of June 25, US$2,198,400 have been raised,” said Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in a Facebook post this afternoon.

According to the Prime Minister, of the total amount, US$300,000 have been given to the injured, and each bereaved family received US$67,800 without counting the Royal Government’s budget of US$10,000 for some bereaved families, a day after the incident.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to thank all charitable people for their financial assistance without political discrimination.

“Again, I’d like to thank and appreciate the search and rescue forces for their responsibility, sympathies and love for the victims as their fellow citizens. Thanks as well to Chinese workers and technicians for contributing to this operation since the beginning,” said the Cambodian Premier.

A seven-storey building in Village III, Sangkat IV of Sihanoukville collapsed in the dawn of June 22, and the rescue operations were concluded yesterday evening with the records of 28 people died and 26 injured.
