Cambodia Asks Vietnam to Increase Electricity Supply

Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy H.E. Suy Sem received here today Mr. Le Bien Cuong, Commercial Counselor at the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia.
According to the ministry’s news release, in the courtesy meeting, Mr. Le Bien Cuong presented best wishes from the Vietnamese minister of industry and trade to H.E. Suy Sem on the upcoming Khmer Traditional New Year.
H.E. Suy Sem asked the Vietnamese side to support Cambodia’s request for more 50 megawatts of electricity supply from Vietnam to respond to the current electricity shortage in Cambodia.
H.E. Minister also called on Vietnam to increase water release from 14 upstream hydropower dams in Vietnam so that the Cambodian Lower Sesan 2 hydropower dam has more water for more electricity generation.
For his part, Mr. Le Bien Cuong took notes of the requests and pledged to report them to his government.
