AKP Phnom Penh, October 20, 2018 —
Cambodia will do its best to ensure the smooth and successful process of 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit to be hosted by the Kingdom in 2020.
The commitment was made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, after the ASEM leaders agreed to hand over the next ASEM chairmanship to Cambodia, in the 12th ASEM Summit held on Oct. 19 in Brussels, Belgium, reported the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK).
As the Chair of ASEM Summit, Cambodia is determined to strengthen the close and mutually beneficial friendship and partnership among the member countries in order to contribute to promoting global peace and security as well as to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he underlined.
In his speeches at the opening ceremony, the luncheon, and the retreat session of the 12th ASEM Summit, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the new developments in the Korean Peninsula and re-appealed to all concerned parties to exercise their restraint and continue their dialogue in a constructive and peaceful spirit toward the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
The 12th ASEM Summit, held under the theme “Global Partners for Global Challenges”, brought together leaders of 51 European and Asian countries, EU representatives, and the Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
ASEM is an Asian–European political dialogue forum to enhance relations and various forms of cooperation between its partners. It was officially established in March 1996 at the first summit in Bangkok, Thailand.
