Cambodian NA President Returns Home after Working Visit to Vietnam

AKP Phnom Penh, August 15, 2020 —

Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, arrived home this afternoon after concluding his one-day working visit in Hanoi, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

He was welcomed upon his arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport by many NA members as well as Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Vu Quang Minh.

While staying in Hanoi, Samdech Heng Samrin paid homage to H.E. Le Kha Phieu, former Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who passed away on Aug. 7, 2020 at the age of 86 years old.

After that, he met with his Vietnamese counterpart H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, during which both sides spoke highly of the good ties of friendship and solidarity between the two neighbouring countries.

The Cambodian NA president recalled the close cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic. He also congratulated Vietnam on successfully organising the ASEAN Summit via video conference despite the pandemic crisis.

At the same time, Samdech Heng Samrin affirmed Cambodia’s readiness to cooperate with the Vietnamese NA for the success of the 41st ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly to be held virtually in September.

On behalf of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, leaders of the legislative and executive bodies and the Cambodian people as well as on his own name, Samdech Heng Samrin expressed his sincere condolences to the State, Party and people of Vietnam as well as the bereaved family for the loss of H.E. Le Kha Phieu.
