Cambodian PM: Fake News More Destructive Than Bombs

AKP Phnom Penh, January 15, 2020 —

Fake news are more destructive than bombs, said Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, while holding here yesterday evening a get-together with journalists, spokespersons and information officials from across the country.

“I would like to stress that if we talk about media sector, its level of destruction is bigger than that of bombs and projectiles if the news are fake,” he said.

A bomb or a projectile can damage or destroy a village or a house, but a misleading information can destroy a nation, and economically affect the macro economy due to psychological war, Samdech Techo Hun Sen explained, adding that it is necessary to timely prevent fake news.

The Premier thus called for joint collaboration in combatting fake news by issuing true information.

Besides, Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged the journalists to stick to the slogan “Do not violate the rights of others, do not distort the truth”.
