AKP Phnom Penh, June 05, 2019 –

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has expressed his congratulations to the Muslim communities in Cambodia and the world, on the closing of Ramadan 2019 in the night of June 4.

“On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, I and my wife would like to congratulate and extend our best wishes to all Muslims in Cambodia and the world,” said the Premier in his congratulatory message posted on his Facebook page this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also thanked the Cambodian Muslims for their contribution to maintaining peace and for their trust in his and the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP)’s leadership.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen has always paid attention to all his compatriots despite their political tendency, their race, and their religious belief. With the Muslim community, Samdech Techo Hun Sen has attended Ramadan Ifta dinners for about 6 years. This year, he joined the event twice, on May 7 and June 2.

Ramadan is the holy month of the Muslim communities, which is determined by the sighting of the new moon. During this holy month, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs to purify the soul, refocus attention to their faith, and practice self-sacrifice. The Iftar is the evening meal Muslims have to break their fast during Ramadan.

Buddhism is the state religion of Cambodia, but the country fully respects the religious freedom. 95 percent of the population of about 15 million are Buddhists. Islam has about 300,000 followers, and some 0.25 percent of Cambodian people follow Christianity, animism and so on.
