Cambodia Plans to Attract More Chinese Visitors
AKP Phnom Pen, January 14, 2019 —
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has expressed his hope that more Chinese visitors will come to Cambodia.
At the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the third ring road from Sangkat Chaom Chau 3, Khan Pursenchey, Phnom Penh to Dei Edth commune, Kien Svay district, Kandal province this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia had reset its goal of attracting 0.05 percent of the total Chinese population by 2025, up from its previous target of only 0.01 percent.
“While meeting with H.E. Xi Jinping when he was Vice President of China, and Chinese President H.E. Hu Jintao in 2010 during their visit to Cambodia, I told them that I need only 0.01 percent [of Chinese people] to visit Cambodia … But now, we need to change our target to about 0.05 percent by 2025,” he said.
According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, some 6.2 million foreign tourists visited Cambodia last year, and 1.2 million of them were Chinese visitors.
To attract more Chinese visitors, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia needs more supporting infrastructure.
