Chapei Master Prach Chhuon Passes Away

AKP Phnom Penh, November 17, 2018 —

Lok Ta Prach Chhuon, a well respected Cambodian Master of Chapei Dang Veng (a long-necked, stringed instrument), passed away early this morning, at around 1:30 am at the age of 82 years old, said Minister of Information H.E. Khieu Kanharith in a Facebook post.

His body is being kept at Botum Vattey pagoda, Phnom Penh, for religious and traditional ceremonies.

In September last year, Lok Ta Prach Chhuon, along with his colleague Lok Ta Kong Nay, was awarded with the country’s honorary decoration by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

Lok Ta Prach Chhuon, a former official of the National Radio of Kampuchea (RNK), has been recognised by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts as “Human Heritage”. His passing away is a great loss for Cambodian traditional arts.
