Cambodia Marks Tourism Day with the Sector’s Digitalisation Prospect

Cambodia has marked the World Tourism Day with an outlook for the digitalisation of the industry to make it more sustainable and responsible for the country.

Themed ‘Tourism and Digital Transformation’, the celebration took place at Preah Sihanouk –one of the country’s most visited tourist’s destinations under the chairmanship of tourism minister and the provincial governor.

Digital advances and innovation have contributed essentially to addressing challenges resulted by rising number of tourists including in Cambodia, said Tourism Minister H.E. Thong Khon grounding on a letter from Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen that he read to participants.

Smart tourism – a new level of tourism with sustainable and responsible services – will be driven by digital platforms as well as internet of things, big data, artificial intelligence, and beyond.

With widely accessible internet connection, digitalisation in tourism has not only fastened services, but also reduced cost and ensured transparent transactions making it more convenient to travellers globally.

Along the mainstream fourth industrial revolution, he added, the Royal Government of Cambodia is working hard to achieve the digitalised tourism as well as the concept of smart city tourism that will better benefit the country economically and environmentally.

The investment will allow the Kingdom to well align its tourism vision toward 2030 with the global trend for the advantage of the country’s economy and people.
