Yellow Banana Farming Attracts Domestic Investors

Growing of Cavendish banana for export is attracting more and more local investment, according to local media report.


A prominent Cambodian investor, Oknha Lim Heng – Vice President of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce – is growing the yellow banana on a total land surface of 1,000 hectares in the provinces of Thbong Khmum, Kampong Cham and Stung Treng.


Another well-known businessperson Oknha Hun Lak – Deputy President of Cambodia Rice Federation – is investing about US$30 million to grow the fruit on the same size of land in Kampot province.


Rising investment in yellow banana farming in Cambodia has been driven by increasing demand for the products in international markets.


The two major domestic investments are targeting at markets in China and United Arab Emirates, and the former is also constructing a factory to process the yellow banana into powder.
