Cambodia Wins Medallion for Excellence at 12th ASEAN Skills Competition in Thailand

Mr. Lam Rithy, a student from Paul Dubrule Hotel and Tourism Training School in Siem Reap province, won Medallion for Excellence in cooking skill among 20 candidates from ten countries at the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition held in Bangkok, Thailand, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 5, 2018.

According to a news release of the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Lam Rithy also got the highest score of Cambodia so called Best of Nation.

ASEAN Skills Competition is held every two years to enhance vocational skills and strengthen ASEAN regional cooperation in order to develop human resources and vocational skills to meet labour market demands and technological evolution in the Industry 4.0 era.

Cambodia dispatched four youths – two for restaurant service and two for cooking – to compete in the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition. This is the fourth time that the Kingdom joined this regional event. In the past competitions, the country also got Medallion of Excellence in the two skill areas.

The biennial ASEAN Skills Competition started in 1995 in Malaysia as a regional platform of vocational education and skills excellence.
