Cambodia, Thailand Strengthen Cooperation on Broadcasting and Communications

AKP Phnom Penh, August 22, 2018 —

Cambodian and Thai relevant officials gathered in the 10th Thailand-Cambodia Joint Technical Committee Meeting in Buriram province of Thailand to review and enhance the cooperation in broadcasting and communications between the two neighbouring countries.

The Cambodian side was led by H.E. Has Sam Ath, Deputy Director General of Administration and Finance of the Ministry of Information while the Thai side was headed by Public Relations Department’s Foreign Office’s Executive Director H.E. Ms. Wanpen Upton.

According to the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT), both sides agreed to expand the cooperation in television and radio broadcasting, as well as the dissemination of news and information, besides the coordination between related agencies such as the national television and radio stations of both countries, in order to promote positive understanding between the Cambodian and Thai peoples.

Both sides discussed the improvement to communications and programmes to correspond with the digital age.

H.E. Has Sam Ath thanked the Thai agencies for assistance provided to a local radio station in Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province to air a programme promoting the culture of people along the shared border. The Cambodian authorities planned to increase the communications channel for the general public along the border in Preah Vihear and Siem Reap provinces.

The Thailand-Cambodia Joint Technical Committee Meeting is held yearly according to a memorandum of understanding signed by the Cambodian and Thai governments on Feb. 8, 2006 in Phnom Penh. Either country takes turns to host such meeting every other year.
