Cambodia Wins 29 Medals in Vovinam in Myanmar 2018
AKP Phnom Penh, August 14, 2018 —
Cambodian Vovinam team arrived home yesterday with 29 medals from the 5th Southeast Asian Vovinam Championships held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from Aug. 7 to 12.
The team was welcomed upon their arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport by H.E. Bun Sok, President of the National Sports Training Centre of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS).
Speaking at the airport, Mr. Ou Ratana, Vice President of Cambodia Vovinam Federation, said that Cambodian athletes got in total 6 gold, 8 silver and 15 bronze medals from this ASEAN-level competition.
Among eight participating countries, Cambodia ranked third after Vietnam and Myanmar who won the first and second places, respectively.
It was an overwhelming success of Cambodia Vovinam team since they got medals in almost the 30 events, which is a new step for the country in preparation to be the host of 32nd SEA Games in 2023 underlined Mr. Ou Ratana.
Last year, in the 5th World Vovinam Championship in New Delhi, India, Cambodia earned 22 medals – 4 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze, ranking thus third among the 45 participating countries.
Vovinam, practiced by some countries, is a Vietnamese martial art which includes training of both the body and mind.
