President of Ruling Party: Cambodia Decides on Its Own Destiny Through Election

President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said Cambodians have decided on their nation’s destiny through a free, fair and just election.

According to his Facebook post this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that based on the preliminary results of the July 29 National Election, the turnout rate is 82.89 percent of the total 8,380,217 eligible voters and 20 political parties participated in the political competition, which clearly illustrates that the Cambodian people have overwhelming support for the liberal multi-party democracy as stipulated in the constitution, the supreme law of Cambodia.

All voters have shown their will to use their rights and freedom to choose their favorite political parties without neither pressure nor intimidation, he said, adding that the recent election was held smoothly and without violence.

At the same time, Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued, there were more than 90,000 national observers and over 500 international observers who closely monitored the electoral process.

Cambodia, an independent and sovereign country, will continue to organise the parliamentary elections every five years, on Sunday, in the fourth week of July, so that all citizens have the opportunity to take part freely in deciding on their nation’s destiny, and in further strengthening democracy and the rule of law, he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also expressed his gratitude to his compatriots who have voted for CPP to continue leading Cambodia toward more progress for the interests of the Cambodian people and nation.
