Cambodia Expresses Condolences over Tragic Incident in Laos
AKP Phnom Penh, July 26, 2018 —
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has sent a condolence letter to his Lao counterpart H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith over the recent deadly incident in Laos.
“I have learned with profound sadness over the collapse of the Xepien-Xenamnoy hydropower dam in Attapeu province of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on July 23, 2018, causing the loss of many lives, hundreds of people missing and thousands more homeless,” wrote the Cambodian Premier in his letter dated July 26.
“On behalf of the Royal Government and people of Cambodia, allow me to convey to Your Excellency and through Your Excellency to the Government and people of the Lao PDR as well as all affected families and victims my deepest sympathies and profound condolences for such huge loss in this unfortunate and tragic incident,” added Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
On the same day, Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn also addressed a condolence letter to his Lao counterpart H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith.
“On this difficult moment, may I convey to Your Excellency and through you to the people of the Lao PDR, and particularly all affected families and victims, my deepest sympathies and profound grief for their suffering and tragic loss,” he said.
